Madrid, September 21, 2021 – In the new geopolitical map that is taking shape, the role of territories has a lot to do with their production capacity and technological innovation, but also with issues such as interoperability and values. This afternoon, in the framework of a debate on digitization in the future of Europe organized by the Carlos Amberes Foundation, the CEO of DigitalES, Víctor Calvo-Sotelo, has claimed the successes of Europe in setting agendas and values on digitization.

Successes, in his opinion, to which we can contribute from Spain during the coming years, through measures such as:

1. Deepening the Digital Single Market. For example, by aligning the content of future strategic policy or legislative initiatives as closely as possible with the roadmaps and directives presented by the Commission.

2. Identify the structural reforms necessary for digital transformation. In this regard, Calvo-Sotelo recalled that the success of the Recovery Plan will depend not only on the execution of the Next Generation EU funds, but also on the achievement of the reforms that will allow these funds to permeate and result in the expected transformations.

3. Evaluation with indicators. Last week, the European Commission presented a document that specifies the actions and projects planned to comply with the strategy for a Digital Decade 2030. Among the measures announced in this communication is an annual monitoring of member countries, based on the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), as well as an annual report on the ‘State of the Digital Decade’.
