Sun and beach tourism continues to be the king of vacations in Spain. Despite the attractions of inland, city and mountain tourism, 41.8% of Spaniards choose coastal destinations to spend their days off. Customs do not change, but the way of enjoying the beach does. Connectivity has changed the way we operate and has even reached the arena. But it is loaded with advantages. We tell you what advances are possible today thanks to digitalization and new technologies.

1. Beaches with Wi-fi

The number is difficult to pinpoint because it is constantly increasing, but about a hundred beaches have public Wi-Fi networks. Peñíscola, Benidorm, Estepona, Santa Ponsa or Punta Umbría are some of the places where we can use the cell phone from the towel, a list of beaches that is close to a hundred and that we can consult in this article of ADSLZone.

2. Lockers for charging cell phones with solar energy

We may have wi-fi and coverage, but what happens if we run out of battery?

Nothing if you are on the beach in Fuengirola. The City Council has installed lockers that allow you to charge your cell phone from the sand and have wifi connection from the towel itself. Best of all, they are charged by solar energy.

3. Drink and food served directly on your towel.

Vagueoo is a Spanish start-up that has given a twist to the food delivery concept being exploited by other companies such as Glovo or Deliveroo. It works the same way, except that the orders are delivered directly to your towel, wherever you are. At the moment it operates in 7 provinces and, in addition to food and beverages, it allows you to order parapharmacy products and beach items.

4. Weareables to control the little ones

Wristbands are the order of the day. why not also use them to control the little ones at the beach? This is what companies such as SP Tracker or Pikavú propose, with watches that allow you to always have your loved ones located from your cell phone’s browser. For its part, the City Council of Castellón de la Plana offers each year a smart bracelet to put on the little ones that contains a chip with the contact details of family members, something that makes it easier to locate them in case the child gets lost on the beach.

5. The bracelet with Airbag

Even more eye-catching is this bracelet, which keeps a float inside that inflates in case a person needs to stay afloat.

Kingii, as the weareable is called, is used by pressing a button that triggers the release of a carbon dioxide charge that inflates the float and must be recharged after each use. In less than a second, the lifesaver is ready to hold an adult weighing up to 130 kilograms at the surface, despite its small size.

6. Apps to avoid getting burned

The world of apps is full of proposals for the beach, although few are as useful as UVLens or UVDerma, which tell you in real time how long you can stay in the sun without getting sunburned or applying a new layer of cream.

7. Internet of Things: the swimsuit that protects you from the sun

The same concept, but from the Internet of Things. A swimsuit that lets you know when it’s time to put cream back on. It has been developed by Spinali Design.

8. The guide of the chiringuitos

It may seem a minor issue, but it can save you from more than one trouble and also make you look good in front of your friends. If you are one of those who like to know all the chringuitos, the Chiringuía app can be one of your best friends this summer.

9. Apps to know everything about the beach: tides, jellyfish…

The apps Infomedusa and ImedJelly will let you know everything about jellyfish in Malaga or Catalonia, while iMar, created by Puertos del Estado, will inform you in real time of the tides and high tide hours, something essential in many points of our coastline.

10. To scare away sharks

This last idea is hardly useful, although you never know… A few days ago a shark was spotted in a cove in Mallorca, so you never know when you’re going to run into one of them. To avoid scares, the Sharkbanz 2 bracelet emits waves that drive the sharks away. Let nothing deprive you of your well-deserved and relaxing bath…
