The session focused on the practical implications of the principles set out in the Charter, especially in areas such as data governance, the use of artificial intelligence, the internal organization of companies and risk management in increasingly complex digital environments.
Juan Miguel Márquez, deputy director of ONTSI, and María Luz Rodríguez, professor of Labor and Social Security Law at the UCLM, opened the morning with an approach to the scope and relevance of the application of fundamental rights to the digital environment.
The panel discussion included Álvaro Arroyo, from PwC Tax & Legal; Ana Isabel Herrán Ortiz, Professor of Civil Law and Data Protection Delegate at the University of Deusto; Carlos Victoria Lanzón, consultant specializing in public policy; Clara de Luna, trainer and consultant in AI adoption at Lumi Labs; and Eva Rimbau Gilabert, from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
During the discussion, issues such as the increasing use of general-purpose AI tools in the business environment, the risks associated with the processing of sensitive data, the need to strengthen digital literacy within organizations, and the skills gaps that may exist both in society and in the companies themselves were addressed.
The speakers also agreed that ethics and the protection of digital rights should not be seen as a brake on innovation, but rather as key elements for generating trust, reducing risks and strengthening business competitiveness in the medium and long term.
The day concluded with a call by Francisco Pérez Bes, deputy director of the AEPD, to integrate the principles of the Digital Bill of Rights into corporate strategy, not only from the perspective of regulatory compliance, but also as part of a management model that combines innovation, responsibility and sustainability.
