According to data from a survey recently conducted by DigitalES, it is estimated that between 2017 and 2022 digitalization will be responsible for the creation of 1,250,000 jobs in our country. And yet, despite the increase in demand in the labor market, the supply of ICT specialists in Spain is still below the EU average, and the existing one cannot even be covered due to the lack of qualifications.

The companies that are part of DigitalES, which have a turnover equivalent to 4% of Spain’s GDP, have serious difficulties in filling positions for technical profiles. Technology is transforming the economy, society and the world at a speed never before known. All this leads us to an inevitable question: are we ready for the digital revolution?

To this and other questions will try to answer #Digitales2018, the first summit on the digitization of the economic and social model in our country. A two-day meeting that will bring together companies, public administrations and key leaders of the ICT industry with 50 national and international speakers who will address the impact of digitization from different perspectives.

400 guests will attend an event that will be inaugurated by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and where the newly appointed Secretary of State for Digital Agenda Francisco Polo will give a keynote on the new government’s vision for the future of entrepreneurship, innovation and talent.

According to the World Economic Forum, a 10% increase in a country’s digitization rate generates a 0.75% increase in GDP per capita and a 1.02% decrease in the unemployment rate. These are more than conclusive data to join efforts and row all in the same direction. Therefore, Digitales Summit will delve into the challenges to ensure that technology and its future potential reaches all citizens and companies and thus achieve a leading country in talent, digital economy, and innovation.

Over the course of two days, there will be discussions on the Digital Agenda; technology as a transformative force; data protection; cybersecurity; smartcities; Big Data; investment; digital democracy; and of course employment. There will be questions, answers and questions again, but surely many breakthroughs. And above all, one: they will be putting on the table the issues that we can no longer wait to face.

All with a luxury participation. In addition to institutional speakers and representatives of different political parties, the CEOs of the main telecommunications companies will participate in different panels, (Masmovil, Euskaltel, Vodafone, Telefónica, Orange) as well as the top managers in Spain of the leading companies, such as Accenture, Cisco Sistem, Ericcsson, HP, Huawei, Nokia, NEC, Altran, NAE, Berocam, Experis IT or Sopra Steria, among others.

The objective is to open a national debate so that digitalization becomes a transversal element in Spanish society, acting as a lever for economic and productive transformation. It is still too early to know what answers the Congress will leave us with, but it is not too early to start asking questions.

The best thing is that it can be followed through social networks, either with the hashtag #DigitalES2018 or through the Association’s profiles. July 10 and 11. The time to talk about a Digital Spain is getting closer.
